Sultan Agung Islamic University (UNISSULA) was established by Sultan Agung Waqf Foundation in 1962. The name of Sultan Agung was taken from the name of an Indonesian national hero. Sultan Agung was the 3rd Sultan who ruled the Mataram Islamic Kingdom from 1613-1645. Under his administration, Mataram was rapidly developed and became the biggest kingdom in Java and Nusantara at that time.

UNISSULA is located in Semarang city which is the fifth-largest metropolitan city in Indonesia. Its values is reflected in the motto “Bismillah, raising khaira ummah generations”. Currently, UNISSULA offers various programs in Diploma, Bachelor, Master, Doctoral, and Profession. It has eleven faculties namely; (1) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, (2) Faculty of Languages and Communication Sciences, (3) Faculty of Islamic Studies, (4) Faculty of Economics, (5) Faculty of Law, (6) Faculty of Engineering, (7) Faculty of Industrial Technology, (8) Faculty of Nursing Science, (9) Faculty of Medicine, (10) Faculty of Dentistry, and (11) Faculty of Psychology.
