UNIVERSITY OF PERPETUAL HELP SYSTEM DALTA PROFILE
Dr./BGEN Antonio Laperal Tamayo, AFP, FPCHA, PhD and his wife, Dr. Daisy Moran Tamayo, together with their friend Ernesto Palanca Crisostomo founded the Perpetual Help College of Rizal (PHCR), now the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (UPHSD) on February 5, 1975.
Anchored by the University Creed of “Character Building is Nation-Building”, the founders were driven to develop young men and women who possess the right kind of character, respectful, hardworking and committed to the formation of a prosperous and a wealthy nation.
Initially, Sir Tony and his partner established the Perpetual Help College of Rizal (PHCR) and Perpetual Help Medical Center (PHMC) simultaneously, offering the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and the Secondary Course. From 185 students, the school expanded its reach by establishing two branches in Molino and Calamba for two consecutive years, 1995-1996. The Molino Campus started with 700 students while the Calamba Campus had an initial enrolment of 367 enrollees. These humble beginnings marked the expansion of school operations in its curricular programs, faculty, research, community service, infrastructure and professional development.
In 1997, PHCR received its university status from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). As the biggest university of Perpetual Help System DALTA, it changed its name to the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (UPHSD-DALTA). The Las Piñas Campus houses around 14,000 students and employs more than a thousand teaching and non-teaching personnel. It offers more than 70 undergraduate and more than 10 post-graduate academic programs in addition to its basic education program. It also partnered with local and international higher education and industry partners to further improve its operations for the betterment of the quality of education for the Filipinos.
Today, UPHSD continues to maintain and sustain its excellence in education by instituting relevant programs that will uphold and subscribe to the institutional philosophy that national development and transformation is predicated upon the quality of education of its people.
