General Information

Host Institution

UM Tagum College, formerly MC Tagum Academy, marked its humble beginning in summer of 1950 as the first non-sectarian private school of Tagum. It was established to cater to the educational needs of the people in this part of the country. Now, it becomes the largest among the eight branches of the University. The first building in Mabini Street had housed the first 150 students and 4 faculty members. The courses offered were Stenography, Typewriting, Bookkeeping and complete academic secondary course. In the same year, it was given government recognition. One year after her foundation, the school held its first graduation. This marked the beginning of its tradition.

  UM Tagum College now offers 21 degree programs many of which are accredited with the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA).  Liberal Arts is Level III and currently applying for Level IV accreditation,  Business Administration with three programs Human Resource Management, Financial Management, and Marketing Management are also Level III , Teacher Education has Level II Status,  Criminology and Hotel and Restaurant Management are both in Level II,  the Accountancy  and Computer Science programs are  both in Level I Formal Accredited Status.

             In its pursuit for better quality, the school has started to work for more certifications.  In the year 2017, UM Tagum college was given the certification for ISO 9001:2015.  This is maintained and re-certified in 2018.   The Philippine Quality Award ( PQA) was given last October 2018.  PQA is the highest level of national recognition for exemplary organizational performance. It is equivalent to the very prestigious Baldrige Performance Excellence Program in the U.S. and other National Quality Awards nationwide.  The award is given to organizations in the private and public sectors that excel in quality, productivity and business performance. The Award focuses on results including customer satisfaction.

                UM Tagum College with its two campuses, the Mabini Main and Visayan Campuses can boast of modern facilities such as concrete buildings following government standards, separate air conditioned libraries, science and engineering laboratories, computer laboratories, speech laboratory, , complete HRM and Tourism laboratories, air-conditioned offices  a mini-gym for Def Tac exercises and a cultural center with a seating capacity of 6,000 people where social functions are held.  It is also open for the community affairs.

                In conformity with the vision of the University of Mindanao, UM Tagum College continues to provide quality affordable and open education to the youth of Mindanao, the country and become a global person.
